ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT
Preamble
With faith in God, and unquestioning acceptance of the Bible as the
Word of God, and sole rule of our faith and practice, we offer to all Missionary
Baptist Churches of Christ the following Articles of Agreement.
ARTICLE I
Name
The Cooperative Association of Missionary Baptist Churches of
California.
ARTICLE II
Object
The object of this Association is to encourage co-operation and Chris-
tian activity among the churches, to promote interest in and encourage Missions
on a New Testament basis among all people, to stimulate interest in Christian
literature, general benevolence, and Christian education and to provide a me-
dium through which the churches may co-operate in these enterprises.
ARTICLE III
Members
Section No. 1—This association shall be composed of Missionary
Baptist Churches as defined in article number thirteen of the declaration of faith
in J. M. Pendleton’s church manual.
Section No. 2—The annual or called sessions of this Associaŧion
shall be held by messengers elected by the churches com-
5
posing said Association.
Section No. 3—Each church co-operating in this Association is en-
titled to three messengers who are members of the church
they represent. They
;
are to bring letters showing their election by the church, which letters should
give a report of their past year.
Section No. 4—We recommend to all Scriptural New Testament
churches, desiring to co-operate with us for the purpose designated in Article
two of these Articles of Agreement, express their desire by presenting evidence
of their origin, faith, and practice; and, we further recommend, that any church
refusing, or failing to continue in the faith and practice designated by them, will
not be considered seated in the messenger body.
ARTICLE IV
Doctrinal Statue
This Association shall recognize the freedom of speech as essential
to the highest achievements in its work. It shall stand or fall on its own con-
formity to truth. It shall exercise no ecclesiastical authority but it shall by ev-
ery precaution recognize the sovereignty of every individual church. It shall
also encourage on the part of churches and Messengers the greatest possible
freedom of expression in discussing matters pertaining to its work, and in the
preeminence of missions and evangelism in the work of the churches.
ARTICLE V
Powers
The powers of this Assocalion shall be limited to the execuŧion ac-
cording to teachings of the New Testament of the will of the churches compos-
ing it; and the Association, in annual sessions, shall elect such officers as are
necessary for its deliberation and work, and appoint such committees as are
needed, and transact
6
other business as may be directed by the churches.
ARTICLE VI
Officers
Section No. 1—It will be the duty of the messengers annually
to elect from among their members a Moderator, Assistant Moderator and
such Clerks and other Officers as may be needed or directed by the churches
composing this association.
Section No. 2—In all votes of this Association a majority of votes
cast shall decide questions; except in cases of change or amendment in the
Articles of Agreement. In such cases a two-thirds majority will be required.

sionaries.

STATE MISSIONS
TO THE MESSENGER MEETING OF THE CALIF. COOPERA-
TIVE ASSOCIATION WHEN CONVENED IN MCFARLAND:
Greetings:
I am happy to report to you on the work that was accom-
plished on the State Field for the first 5 months by me. As had been
the excellent spirit of cooperation prior to this period, so it continued
and made the work profitable.
During this period of Labor the noticeable achievements
were the organization of the fine Church in Pedley, the enlistment of
the great Church and Pastor in Mira Loma to our fellowship, and a
small part in the organization of the church in Home Gardens. The
support was good and amounted to $1770.71. This was
24
an average of $354.14 per month.
The reason for my going off the field was mainly my health
was breaking, and in order to keep from being a hindrance to the work
I resigned and accepted the fine church in Sacramento where the Lord
is blessing wonderfully.
May the Lord continue, to bless our fellowship is my sincere
prayer.
L. D. Perdue
STATE MISSION REPORT
I was endorsed and recommended to the State Mission Field
by the Landmark Missionary Baptist of Sacramento, and the endorse-
ment was approved by the churches of the State Association in a special
called meeting of the messengers at that church Nov. 10, 1956, and I
was recommended by the messengers for cooperative support in the
work.
The remainder of Nov., Dec., and up to Jan. 24th, was spent
in visitation work among the churches. I came to Eureka then, hold-
ing my first mission service there Jan. 27, 1957. I found a small group
of Missionary Baptist holding Sunday School services in Eureka and
anxious to have a church organization. Some had gotten mixed up in
alien Baptist organizations but could not endorse their practices, so had
come out of them. A few of them who had been recently saved had been
baptized into alien Baptist ranks, and we could not receive them into
our membership. Some turned away and would not submit to scriptural
baptism and up to the present seem to be lost to our work, but we have
hopes that the Lord will yet lead them to us, and to scriptural service
for the Master.
On March 19, 1957 we organized The Landmark Missionary
Baptist Church of Eureka with only six members, knowing there were
others who desired to come into the body after organization -Since that
time we have received three by letter from Arkansas Landmark Baptist
Churches, and three who had previously found the Lord’s salvation
have presented themselves as candidates for baptism. Too, three adults
have made professions of faith in the Lord and two of them are stand-
ing approved for baptism, the third having been prevented from doing
so by prolonged illness in the home. As of the present date, we have
nine
25
members, with five standing approved for baptism and near a dozen
adults who are under conviction for sin who have asked an interest
in the prayers of the church in Eureka. Pray for us.
The church has called me as Missionary Pastor until such
time as the Lord sees fit to provide them with a regular one.
The prospects here in the northwest corner of the state are
virtually unlimited. This is the very heart of the state’s lumber in-
dustry and this coastal area has a number of towns and communities
large enough to expect a Missionary Baptist Church to be estab-
lished. It is my hope and prayer to see a church in Crescent City,
Arcata, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Garberville, Willetts, and Ukiah. These
communities and cities have many residents who were raised in
Christian homes in the south. How white are these fields, and how
few the laborers!
From Nov. 10th to April 1st I have received $1409.74,
making a monthly average of a little above $260.00. I have traveled
a little over 10,000 miles, and led in the organization of one church,
assisting in two others—Cloverdale and Vallejo.
I wish to thank my brethren, with the churches, for their
good will and support, and pray that it may continue through the
coming year if they consider me worthy to continue on the field as
their State Missionary.
Respectfully Submitted,
Allen Tabor
COMMITTEE REPORTS
CHRISTIAN LITERATURE
We, your committee on Christian Literature, recommend
the following:
That we first and above all use the inspired Word of God
as our rule of faith and practice.
We further recommend for use in Sunday School, Baptist
Training courses, and Vacation Bible Schools the material printed
and published by the A. B. A. and realizing the good of church bul-
letins, and the need of a paper published in the interest of the
26
churches of this Association we recommend that all churches put forth
an effort to place the “Baptist Sentinel” in each church home, and that
each church endeavor to publish a church bulletin each week.
We further recommend that the churches remember the Bap-
tist Sentinel in their offerings.
Respectfully

COMMITTEE ON RESOLUTION
Where as the associated work of the churches is for the ad-
vancement of the Lord’s Work, We, your committee, offer these resolu-
tions.
1. Resolved: That our churches adopt the graded system in
their Sunday Schools. We recommend the A. B. A. Series.
2, Resolved: That we dispense with reading of the full report
of the churches in our messenger meeting and that only the names be
read.
3. Resolved: Whereas the organization known as the American
Council of Christian church has, in its publications, listed the American
Baptist Association as a constituent member of said organization and
whereas a number of churches and pastors of this association are op-
posed to being identified with religious groups whose Doctrines and
Practices are believed to be unscriptural, and alien in many respects,
and believing that it is not necessary to be identified with other groups
to fight Communism and Modernism. Be it resolved that we the mes-
sengers of the cooperative Missionary Baptist Association of California
recommend to our churches, and Sister churches of the A. B. A. to resist
“with all long suffering and Doctrine” any effort to count Missionary
Baptist People with the above group—not with standing the fact that we
are to oppose as Baptist, Communism and Modernism.

HOME MISSIONS
We your committee on Home Missions beg to report:
By Home Missions we mean Mission work that’s done
within the bounds of our association. We your committee recom-
mend that we support at least one missionary for our state work who
shall be chosen by the messengers assembled here,
We further recommend that the messengers, report to the
churches who we have recommended, and ask that they support the
missionary or missionaries that have been recommended.

FOREIGN MISSIONS
We recommend to the churches of this Assoc. for support
those missionaries who are endorsed by the churches of the Ameri-
can Baptist Assn.
Believing that these missionaries are God called, church
sent and recommended men we heartily recommend them to our sis-
ter churches for regular support.
Knowing that they depend on the churches for support,
we encourage all true Missionary Baptist Churches to help bear the
burden as well as the blessing. Send offerings regularly to our Sec.
Treasurer at 214 Broad St., Texarkana, Ark. Tex.

PUBLICITY REPORT
To the messengers of the churches of the California Coop-
erative Association in session at McFarland, California, April 13 and
17, 1957 Christian Greetings.
28
It has indeed been a pleasure for me to serve this past year as
your publicity director. I feel many things have been left undone, howev-
er, I respectfully submit the following information and report as a survey
of my activities in the field of promoting “publicity.”
Following the Association meeting in Corcoran last year, a num-
ber of articles and reports appeared in the Fresno Bee and local papers as
well as articles of interest about the California State work in the Search-
light and Sentinel, and other church sponsored papers. I have advised our
State A. B. A. churches, to use every available media for local church
promotion. It is indeed advantageous for all Missionary Baptist churches
to contact local papers where they will receive free space for church an-
nouncements. A write-up, given to the editor regarding special services,
announcements, etc., will help promote the cause of Christ, and bring in
new families.
Since coming to the Los Angeles area I have been serving in the
capacity as local missionary for the coastal area cooperative Assoc. of
Missionary Baptist churches.
A goodly number of church ads have been placed in local papers
with an ad in the Los Angeles Examiner announcing the church location,
name of pastor and time of service, of all our southern area Missionary
Baptist churches.
At the A.B.A. Messenger Body meeting in Little Rock, Ark. last
summer I placed a large banner in the foyer of the civic Auditorium invit-
ing the next Messenger Body meeting to Fresno, Calif.
I have contacted one National Publicity Director, assuring him
of our full cooperation in assisting in the promotional work of the coming
Messenger Body meeting in Fresno, Calif.
Respectfully submitted,
S. E. Comstock
Publicity Director
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
We your committee on Christian Education wish to submit the
following report:
Realizing the need of a trained ministry and recognizing that
29
a church sponsored school is the type in harmony with God’s Word, we
recommend that the churches of Calif. give cooperative support to the
Bible Institute of Long Beach sponsored by the Dominguez Church.
We further recommend the Little Rock Seminary and all other
such church owned schools in harmony with the A.B.A. for advanced
studies.
We further recommend that all of our churches continue to pro-
mote educational programs such as training classes, daily vacation Bible
school, Sunday Schools, officer and teacher meetings.
