COMMITTEE REPORTS
FOREIGN MISSIONS
In Matt. 28:18-20 our Lord gave to His church the Great Commission, which
includes making disciples of all Nations, baptizing them and teaching them to ob-
serve all things that He has commanded. This includes teaching and practicing
Missions: In Luke 12:48 Jesus said: “Unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall
be much required.”
Since this is true, the Lord’s Churches will be held responsible for carrying out
the Great Commission. We believe it would be of great value if each
23
church would select one person to correspond with Missionaries to gain informa-
tion as to what is most needful in that particular field.
We know by experience that the better informed the churches are, the greater
will be their interest in Missions.
Respectfully submitted by your committee on Foreign Missions.

HOME MISSION REPORT
We, your committee on Home Missions, wish to submit the following:
1. Definition of Home Missions
Whereas, in our annual meeting of the messenger body of the Missionary Bap-
tist Churches, only two Missionary Committees are appointed-that of Foreign, and
Home Missions. We conclude, that Home Missions consist of local, state, and in-
terstate mission endeavor since by divine inspiration in Acts 1:8 divides the mis-
sion field into four separate phases.
2. We recommend, that each sister church be Mission-minded, consistently
praying for and supporting faithfully each phase of the Mission work.
3. We recommend, that each church put forth a greater effort through her
educational and training services to encourage every member to be a Missionary
in deed and in truth.
Respectfully submitted,

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
As the above title definitely sets forth, this deals with all phases of Scriptural
education. First the great need, above all else, is for the children from the cradle to
be brought up in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Second, our churches
are commanded to, “teach all things what-so-ever I have taught” and in order to
even start on this, we need well organized educational programs in our churches
This would include Sunday School, B.T.C., and other phases of church work.
In order to accomplish the first two, it is necessary to have a trained ministry.
This brings us to the most important recommendation of this committee, that of
our Bible Schools. We commend the Sacramento Valley Missionary Baptist Insti-
tute for their initiative in offering night classes to ministers in that section of the
state, and urge those who cannot take advantage of the training offered in our ac-
credited Seminary, the CMBI, to attend those classes offered. But, of the many fine
schools in Missionary Baptist ranks, one stands out above all others in the interest
of California Churches, and that one is CMBI. In order for this great school to ac-
complish its purpose, it needs the support of all the churches. This must be done
in these two ways: (1) by encouraging, the purchase of building bonds to finish
paying the indebtedness involved in completing the present beautiful building, (2)
regular monthly offerings to help defray the heavy operating expenses of such an
educational institution.

CHRISTIAN LITERATURE
The committee on Christian Literature submit the following report:in keeping
with the command of our Lord and Saviour,Jesus Christ, Christian Literature has
proven necessary for its development.
25
The Graded Sunday School System of Records has advanced, by its recom-
mendations of good sound Christian Literature, the cause of Christ in a wonderful
way. All the literature this system recommends may be purchased through any of
the Book Stores of our A. B. A. Institutes and Seminaries, as well as through the
Book Store of Texarkana, Arkansas, Texas.
The many religious papers, such as the Sentinal, Search Light, Monitor, An-
chor, Missionary, and other church endorsed papers, which are not mentioned, have
the very best articles known in our time for the promotion of the Kingdom of our
Lord.
The Sunday School, and BTC quarterlies of the ABA puulication, are second
to none in text guide studying. Their lessons are designed to introduce the.doctrine
of the New Testament as they are found in the light of the Old Testament, and to
implant an evangelical fervor in God’s people of the Churches of the Lord Jesus
Christ.
We further recommend our homes and classrooms of our churches be supplied
with the kind of literature which would not be out of place should the Lord walk
through.

STATE MISSION REPORT
TO MESSENGERS OF THE COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION
OF CALIFORNIA, WHEN CONVENED IN GLENDALE
Dear Brethren:
First of all I wish to thank all the churches and their good pastors for their fine
cooperation and financial support for the five years just past, in which I have served
on the mission field. You are to be highly commended for such cooperation. God
has blessed, and will continue to bless, such fellowship in His work.
The last eleven months have been spent in the northern
26
part of the state chiefly. The early part of the year was spent at Eureka with the
church there, and working with the church at McKinleyville in time of stress when
they were without a pastor and could get none. Dividing my time between the two
churches as best I could until McKinleyville called Bro. Jones pastor. After Bro.
Jones came to McKinleyville and I was free to do so, and after Eureka called a.
pastor, I began a mission in Hoopa, Calif., which was organized into a church in
December 1, 61,with twenty three or twenty four charter members, more than half
of them having been led to the Lord and baptized during the mission work there.
During the past Associational year, I have been privileged to preach in five re-
vival efforts: Chico, Cloverdale, Hoopa, Oakdale and Paramount. The Lord blessed
in each of the meetings wonderfully, with professions of faith, or additions to the
church.
I have driven approximately 36,000 miles in the interest of missions the past
year. After thirteen weeks of continuous work, day after day, I developed a heart
ailment, and following the advice of my doctor, left the mission field to accept the
Sharon Missionary Baptist Church of Paramount as pastor.
The doctor told me I should settle in one place, where I could get out from un-
der the strain of continual driving, and nerve strain common to such work.
In the eleven month period I labored on the field this year, I received from the
churches, a total of $4,058.16, averaging $368.92 per month. For the entire eleven
month period, the support fell short of the recommended salary only $352.88.
Once again I want to commend the churches and pastors for their fine
cooperation.I have enjoyed the mission work very much indeed, but despite the
providence that made it necessary for me to leave the field,I “know that all things
work together for the good of them that love the Lord, who are the called according
to His purpose.”
In closing this report, I wish to make a plea to the churches and pastors to not
let up in the development of the work in the northern part of this great
27
state. It is a needy field and a great work can be done there.
Submitted thankfully and in all humility,
Your State Missionary
Allen Tabor
P.S. Since arriving at the Association, I have received a check for $94.97.
STATE MISSION REPORT
TO THE MESSENGERS OF THE
CALIFORNIA COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION:
Dear Brethren:
I am thankful and happy to be able to give this report to this great messenger
body. I appreciate the prayers, fellowship, and support, that you have given me dur-
ing the past two and one half years.
This past year has been a year of blessings and progress, in the services of the
Lord. During the first part of the Associational year, I served the Bell Gardens and
Buena Park Missionary Baptist Churches. In June, they both called pastors which
freed me to leave them. I am happy to report that both of these young churches are
still growing and doing very well.
The Pico Rivera Church was in desperate need and going to disband unless
someone would help them. They were greatly discouraged, having lost their prop-
erty. I became their missionary pastor with the intention of helping them get started
again, get a new pastor, and then I would leave but God placed a desire in my heart
to accept the church as pastor. So on December 1, I resigned State Missions, and
became their pastor. The church is doing well, and it is representing in our work for
the first time this year, and God is blessing. Remember to pray for us at Pico Rivera.
I received $2,982. during the eight months I served on the field which was
$218. short of my recomrnended salary. However, I received $165.00 from two
28
churches, after I left the State Mission field. This leaves a deficit of only $53.00.
I want to thank you very much for your faithful support and prayers, and ask
you to please continue to pray for us as we work at Pico Rivera.
Your Brother in Christ
James Wilkins
STATE MISSION REPORT
TO THE CHURCHES COMPOSING THE
CALIFORNIA COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION
OF MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCHES
Christian Greetings:
It has been a pleasure to serve you in the capacity of State Missionary the past
year. The year has been spent working in the San Francisco area. The Lord has
blessed our efforts with the establishment of another New Testament Church, in
the City of San Francisco. The church was organized July 20, 1961, with sixteen
charter members. The Lord has blessed us with the salvation of souls, and additions
to the church. It has been a great joy to work with a wonderful group of people.
They have contributed over ten percent of their income to missions and Christian
education since they have been organized; also, paid $100. per month toward my
salary; plus the rent on a building to meet in;and have accumulated over $1400. in
their building fund.
I have recently been investigating the possibility of starting a mission work in
the Garberville area. The church at Stafford has voted to sponsor a work in that area
since they have some members living there. We have located a building in which
to hold services, but, have not had an opportunity to really work the field yet. If the
churches see fit to recommend me for cooperative support for another year,I shall
endeavor to continue with the work in Garberville, or wherever the Lord opens a
door for me.
My heart-felt thanks to all who have had a part in this work, and made it pos-
sible for me to stay on the field.
Humbly submitted
Harold Cole

CALIFORNIA COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION
Dear Brethren:
The Landmark Church of Sacramento has endorsed Bro. Ray Owen for Mis-
sion work and he is now leading in a mission effort in Rancho Cordova. Five fami-
lies are expected to start this off. Thousands of new homes have been built in this
area and a great opportunity is ours. Bro. Owen is well qualified for this work and,
he is willing to serve as one of our State Missionaries, if it is the Lord’s will. How-
ever, he is going ahead with this work anyway. Also, the Lord has laid on his heart
to work with the Sacramento Valley Missionary Baptist Institute, and he plans on
teaching three hours per week in this school. If you decide to recommend him for
Mission support, he will then quit a much better paying job to give his full
31
time to this work. May God have His way in this.

TO THE MESSENGERS OF THE CHURCHES COMPOSING THE
COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION OF MISSIONARY BAPTIST
CHURCHES OF CALIFORNIA:
Greetings to you from the First Missionary Baptist Church in Mira Loma:
Our Church started a mission work among the Spanish people mainly among
those who live in Mexico and are here working. We have two preachers who speak
Spanish, Bro. Bob DeSoto and Bro. Joe Damazio. It is Bro. Bob DeSoto’s native
tongue. Our Church sent these Brethren out to do this work, and from December
1, 1961 to April 1, 1962, there have been over one hundred professions of faith in
Christ. Many have been baptized and one young man has surrendered to the min-
istry, and will soon return to his native land of Monterrey, Mexico, and will enroll
in our school there.
At the present time, we have two missions operating, one here in Mira Loma
and the other in Escondido, California. We believe this work is worthy of our sup-
port and we want to recommend Bro. Bob DeSoto to you for your endorsement
and support. He is ordained and true to our Baptist Churches, and Baptist Faith. He
hopes to go to Mexico soon to establish a Church there.

PUBLICITY REPORT
Publicity work of our Churches I believe has done much to help our Churches
in the locality where our meetings are held each year. I enjoyed this work, although
I have been hindered by the lack of money coming in for this work. May I recom-
mend to our Pastors that they see the good of working with the Church and Pastor
who are entertaining this great work of our Churches in Missions and Christian
Education.
I enjoyed working with Bro. Caves and the good Church in Glendale.
Only five Churches sent in money for this work--Lomita, Dominguez, Oakley,
Cypress and Landmark. The total received was $35.00. Total expenses this year
were $38.00. May the Lord bless our work.
